PERIODONTAL DENTAL CARE

ONLY A PROFESSIONAL CLEANING BY A DENTIST OR DENTAL HYGIENIST CAN REMOVE BUILT-UP TARTAR.

Even the best in-home dental routine will only remove so much build-up. This is why the dental industry asks patients to continue semi-annual care. By doing so, we can reinforce all that hard at-home work.

Protect your smile and gums from periodontal disease by scheduling our free examine and consultation.

Periodontal Diseases

Our mouths are full of bacteria. These bacteria, along with mucus and other particles, constantly form a sticky, colorless “plaque” on teeth. These contaminants will lead to periodontal diseases ranging from simple gum inflammation to serious disease that results in serious damage to the soft tissue and bone that support the teeth. In the worst cases, teeth are lost. Brushing and flossing help get rid of plaque but the plaque that is not removed will harden and form “tartar” that brushing alone doesn’t clean and causes gum disease.

What happens if I wait to long between regular dental visits?

The longer plaque and tartar are on teeth, the more harm they cause. Bacteria cause inflammation of the gums which is commonly known as gingivitis. In gingivitis, the gums become red, swollen and can bleed easily. Gingivitis is a mild form of gum disease that can usually be reversed with daily brushing, flossing, and regular cleanings by a dentist or dental hygienist. If not treated it can lead to a more serious disease called periodontists, which is inflammation around the tooth.

Periodontists

The gums start to pull away and form pockets that become infected. Bacterial toxins and the body’s natural response to infection start to break down the bone and connective tissue that hold teeth in place. If left untreated, the bones, gums, and tissue that support the teeth… are destroyed. The teeth may eventually become loose and have to be removed.

There is a remedy!

Our skilled Hygienists will perform either a Periodontal Cleaning, Full Mouth Debridement, or Scaling and Root Planning. These processes can dramatically slow the progression of periodontal disease and gingivitis.

Full Mouth Debridement
Will enable the dentist(Hygienist) to remove the tartar and plaque from the teeth and to allow the gums to heal and become healthy, so that a proper comprehensive/periodontal evaluation can be done.

Scaling and Root Planing
A careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus [tartar] from deep periodontal pockets and to smooth the tooth root to remove bacterial toxins.
